CLINICALCHEMISTRY, Vol. 32, No. 5, 1986 913 with either substrate, but the observed activity was 55.7% lower with iralanine-4-nitroanilide, in contrast with what happens in sera of males and nonpregnant women. Evidently, i..-alanine-4-mtroanilide behaves like LCHA in this regard, probably reflecting the relative resistance of these substrates to the action of cystyl-aminopeptidase and perhaps other a-aminoacylpeptide hydrolases whose activity may be increased in the sera during pregnancy. We thus find this method to be fast, kinetic, and readily amenable to total automation, and we believe it has practical and theoretical advantages over those in which LCHA is used as substrate.

between CA-19-9 concentrations in blood and whether or not patients were taking supplements. Thus, cystic fibrosis is one of the first benign diseases shown to be associated with high CA-19-9 concentrations in blood. The origin of CA-19-9 in these patients instill unknown. it is unlikely to be derived from the pancreas because patients with pancreatitis reportedly have low concentrations of thi...

Background & Aims: Pancreatic Elastase–1 (EL-1) is a human specific protease enzyme, produced and secreted by pancreatic acinar cells. This enzyme is stable and is not affected by prescriptions of supplement pancreatic enzymes, and it has good connection with pancreatic stimulation function tests. The Purpose of this study is to compare fecal pancreatic elastase–1 concentration in patients wi...
متن کاملPancreatic oncofetal antigen and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 in sera of patients with cancer of the pancreas.
Pancreatic oncofetal antigen (POA) and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) were measured in the sera of 23 patients with cancer of the pancreas to determine the true positive rates of these cancer markers. In one group of unselected pancreatic cancer patients (n = 9), both tests showed above-normal results in three patients and both gave values that were within reference limits in three other p...

Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 is most valuable as a serum marker for pancreatic and biliary cancer, but increased concentrations occur in several other gastrointestinal malignancies. A carbohydrate antigen 19-9 value of >1,000 U/ml usually indicates a digestive cancer and has been reported to have a specificity greater than 99% for pancreatic cancer; nevertheless, false-positive results owing to be...

OBJECTIVE Neutrophil elastase is secreted by neutrophils during activation and circulates in the plasma where it can play a role in inflammation and fibrosis. This study examines the role of neutrophil elastase in SSc, a systemic CTD that is typified by vascular dysfunction, tissue fibrosis and inflammation. METHODS Serum neutrophil elastase and α₁-anti-trypsin concentrations were assessed in...
